A team of machine operators from Adhesif Labels were proud to finally receive their General Manufacturing Print – Level 3 qualifications at a graduation ceremony with a COVID-19 twist.
Due to receive their completion certificates and medals at the PrintNZ graduation ceremony in March, the team were disappointed when this event was cancelled.
Delayed celebrations took place recently at an onsite graduation at the Adhesif Labels head office in East Tamaki. The first of two ceremonies kicked off at 5am, to accommodate shift-work schedules.
The Adhesif management team wanted to offer their employees the opportunity of a training programme relevant to the area they work in. However, the machine operator’s role was not aligned to a typical apprenticeship.
Competenz arranged a bespoke 12-month General Manufacturing Print programme, with Adhesif and an external training provider, Grant Leftus. Grant facilitated training and guidance across various shifts, including 3pm and 10pm sessions.
“This course provided training to all our production staff that can lead into further education and apprenticeships. Delivered over multiple sessions during different shifts, it set a baseline for Good Manufacturing Process (GMP) and health and safety, providing significant benefit to our team,” says Alisdair Clark, Adhesif Group Technical Manager.
Three of the learners who completed this program have now progressed on to a New Zealand Apprenticeship in Reel Fed Printing – Level 4. They are able to use some of the credits from their Level 3 qualification to put towards this apprenticeship.
