New Zealand’s forests offer some of the country’s most scenic workplaces and a training ground which provides unique challenges. So it was good to be able to give two cabinet ministers the opportunity to spend time with a forestry crew logging pine near Atiamuri in the Central North Island.

Hon Louise Upston (Associate Minister for Tertiary Education, Skills and Employment) and Hon Jo Goodhew (Associate Minister for Primary Industries) met managers and employees from Tokoroa-based forestry contractor Fast Harvesting on 6 October. Fast Harvesting has a strong training record and the ministers talked to employees who are completing forestry qualifications on-the-job about the challenges of working and training in a forest.

Competenz thanks Fast Harvesting and forest owner Carter Holt Harvey Pulp and Paper for making this visit possible.
