The Competenz Printing, Packaging, Signmaking & Journalism team received great feedback in the latest New Zealand Sign & Display Association’s (NZSDA) newsletter from NZSDA National President Nick Baty.

Nick spoke highly of Competenz National Manager Print, Packaging, Sign & Journalism Manager Mike Stevens and the work he and his team have done in increasing the number of apprentices in this sector.

"Mike noted that we currently have 77 apprentices actively enrolled throughout the country. This is a huge improvement on where we have been in recent years, where the numbers have been down in the twenties," Nick says.

"For the first time in many years we have an ITO which has the resources and the commitment to give us the training programmes and support that our industry needs, and they are actively working as we speak to bring their resources up to speed, so that you can have confidence that when you take on an apprentice both you and the apprentice will receive the professional support necessary. As well as working on resources, Competenz is actively involved in raising awareness amongst school leavers of the benefits of working in our industry, and has a number of initiatives underway which should see an uplift in young people seeking opportunities in signmaking."

Congratulations to Mike and his team for all their efforts.
