We’re pleased to introduce our new Careers Manager, Joanne Verry. Jo leads the Competenz team responsible for helping schools across New Zealand promote careers in the trades and prepare your students for a successful trades career.
Joanne was previously an account manager with Competenz, responsible for helping customers like Goodman Fielder and Fletcher Aluminium build their skills in the workplace. Her extensive experience in management roles in a range of industries complements the relationships and detailed knowledge that Brian Lane and Kimberley Ward have built up over ten years of visiting schools.

How we work with schools to prepare and place students
We love it when it all comes together: a well prepared student finds a good job with a company in one of our Competenz industries. These are some of the ways we can help schools around New Zealand make this a reality for their students.
Helping schools prepare students for a career in our industries
Our Tools4Work programme gives students hands-on experience, with practical projects and learning resources, to prepare them for a career while they achieve NCEA standards.
- In 2014 over 8,000 students in 250 secondary schools used our Tools4Work programme.
We also support teachers to help them prepare their students.
- In 2014, 130 teachers attended our Tools4Work Professional Development Day.
Helping schools place students with our industries
We support school Gateway placements to give students hands-on work experience. We are also placing some students directly into full-time roles by matching them with the companies we support. Over the next year we will be doing more of this.
